An increasing number of communication channels are finding their way into automobiles
The number of installation and functional tests carried out by the communications testing system KPS has increased from three to ten within just three years. In 2005, KPS tested only the VHF and medium-wave reception of the car radio and the GSM radio connection (Global System for Mobile Communications) to the cell phone. However, a year later, the test battery had grown to seven test sets. The added features included the tests for (analog) television reception, the remote-controlled parking heater, the installation and functional test of the loudspeakers, and — for the U.S. market — a signal path check for the digital satellite radio that is so popular there (SDARS, Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service).
Three additional tests will be added by the end of 2007: An extra test set for the digital radio reception of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) has already been implemented in the KPS, and test sets are currently being prepared for radio-controlled central locking and the key-less electronic access system KEYLESS GO.
